Spec Ops: Rangers Lead The Way is a third person tactical shooter video game with strategy elements. It was developed by Zombie Studios and was published by Ripcord Games. The game launched exclusively on the Microsoft Windows platform on April 30, 1998. It is the first game in the long-running Spec Ops series. An add-on pack, Spec Ops: Ranger Team Bravo was released later that year on November 17, 1998. The original game was later re-released alongside Ranger Team Bravo and a strategy guide in a 1998 bundle, called Spec Ops: Rangers Lead the Way -- Pro Pack. A second bundle called Spec Ops: Ranger Gold contained the pro pack plus a strategy guide Mission 2000 and the demo of Spec Ops II: Green Berets. A third bundle called Spec Ops: Platinum Collection contained Spec Ops : Rangers Lead the Way, Spec Ops: Ranger Team Bravo, Spec Ops II: Green Berets, Spec Ops II: Operation Bravo and a strategy guide.
In Spec Ops five missions take place in different parts of the world, from Korea to Honduras. Each mission is divided into three phases. In turn, in each phase before the gallant pair of rangers will be delivered to multiple tasks that require compulsory execution. At each phase is given a strictly limited period of time. Before carrying out the next phase, the player can choose one of the sets of weapons for himself and his partner. In the course of the mission partner can give simple orders or to switch to different soldier. Killed enemies leave behind ammo and first aid kits.
